The Pro-Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor Umaru Shuaibu, along with Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Chairman of the UNIBEN Trust Development Fund, and Vice-Chancellor Professor Edoba B. Omoregie, recently met with the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to announce the upcoming launch of the ₦100 billion UNIBEN-Trust Development Fund.
According to a statement from the Public Relations Officer, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the launch is set for Saturday, July 4, 2026, with Dr. Alausa expected to attend.
Speaking during the visit, Pastor Ize-Iyamu noted that Professor Omoregie embraced the Minister’s challenge to engage alumni and stakeholders in supporting the university’s development.
Responding, the Minister commended the Vice-Chancellor for the bold and laudable step and requested that invitation be extended to other Pro Chancellors and Vice Chancellors to witness the ceremony. The Minister thanked the delegation for the visit and promised to be present at the launch.
The Pro-Chancellor, on behalf of the Governing Council, thanked Dr Alausa for his unwavering efforts in transforming the educational landscape of the country. He assured him that the project has the support of the University of Benin Governing Council, and that the presence of the Minister will be a great boost to the initiative .
The 100 Billion Trust Development Fund Grand Launch is billed to hold at the Akin Deko Auditorium of the University of Benin, Ugbowo, at 11 o’ clock in the morning on Saturday 4th July, 2026.
The ceremony is expected to be attended by Government Officials at the federal and state levels, Captains of Industry, Alumni, Staff, Students and other Stakeholders.
