The Chairman of the Coalition of Registered Political Parties (CRPP), Dr. Samson Isibor has expressed concern regarding the surge of kidnappers and criminal activities plaguing Edo State.
This is contained in a statement jointly signed by Dr. Samson Isibor Chairman and Hon. Nkama Waribe, the National Secretary of CRPP, and made available to newsmen in Benin City.
Isibor expressed alarm at the audacity of armed criminals operating openly in the state capital during daylight hours.
He highlighted the shocking incident where these criminals acted unimpeded for nearly 30 minutes, alarmingly close to the Government House and a mere 50 meters from the Aideyan police division.
According to him, the pervasive fear and anxiety among residents have escalated as kidnappers, cultists, and armed bandits wreak havoc across all three senatorial districts, including Esanland, the ancestral home of the Governor.
Isibor said, “We are alarmed that armed criminals are so daring and emboldened to the point of operating right inside Benin City, the state capital in broad daylight.
“Most embarrassing is the fact that the hoodlums operated unchallenged for close to 30 minutes at a distance of less than 500 meters away from the Government House, and about 50 meters away from Aideyan police division.
“Fear and apprehension have now taken over the entire state, as kidnappers, cultists, and armed bandits have ravaged the three senatorial districts, including Esanland, the ancestral home of Governor Okpebholo. Investors are now on the run because of the insecurity in the state.
“The pertinent question being asked now is: What does Governor Monday Okpebholo have to show for the close to ₦1 billion he receives every month as security vote?
“Instead of putting the huge sum of money to work to secure the state, he is busy campaigning for 2.5 million votes for President Bola Tinubu.
“For the umpteenth time, we call on Governor Okpebholo to wake up and take proactive steps to check the rising insecurity across the state. We are tired of his lamentation and messages of commiseration to the traumatized families of victims.”
