The Ophthalmological Society of Nigeria (OSN) Edo State Chapter on Wednesday, June 17th, 2026, honoured the newly elected President of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti, with a reception at the MDCAN lounge, led by Chairman Prof. Rita Momoh.
In her speech, Prof. Momoh praised Prof. Omoti for his exemplary qualities and commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery with integrity.
Prof. Momoh said the reception is to celebrate one of their own and a seasoned clinician, researcher, and administrator.
In his response, Prof. Omoti, accompanied by his wife, Prof. Caroline expressed gratitude for the support he received from the OSN and the Department of Ophthalmology at UBTH,emphasizing that their belief in him played a crucial role in his successful candidacy for the NMA presidency.
Prior to his election as NMA President, Prof. Omoti served as the Chairman of the Edo State Branch of the NMA and Chairman, National Eye Health Committee.
He is a distinguished Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist at UBTH and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Benin (UNIBEN).

Prof. Omoti was elected on Saturday, 2nd May 2026, during the NMA’s Annual General Congress and Delegates Meeting held in Kano. He is to steer the affairs of the Association for the next two years.
