The Leadership and Members of AIGUOBASINMWIN MOVEMENT WORLD-WIDE have raised alarms regarding the continuous influx of individuals, particularly Fulanis, via the Benin-Auchi-Okene-Abuja road into Edo State.
This is contained in a statement signed by Mr. Iyamu Osaro Culture – President, Mr. Osayuki-Osa Benson – Secretary General and Mr. Monday Ohuimumwen, JP – Diaspora Coordinator.
They urge Governor Monday Okpebholo to reassess and reform the existing local security framework to enhance effective policing and ensure public safety.
The MOVEMENT expressed concern that key positions, such as the Commissioner for Public Complaints and Safety, along with other security task forces, are predominantly occupied by individuals of Esan descent.
According to the MOVEMENT, this setup, they argue, may hinder achieving the necessary orderliness, inclusivity, and safety throughout Edo State.
While submitting that it is disheartening to observe that the Edo State Vigilante Security Corps/VSCTF has strayed from its primary mission, with reports suggesting they now operate more as personal protectors and garage touts instead of fulfilling their role in community policing.
“We also note with concern the daily influx of persons/fulanis through the Benin-Auchi-Okene-Abuja road into Edo State, whose activities have been reported to be inimical to the lives and property of Edo people. We therefore urge the Edo State Government to initiate proactive steps to address and manage their influx.
“We further advise Governor Monday Okpebholo to reintroduce the Neighborhood Watch Scheme and create sustainable Empowerment Programs for Edo youth.
“Security is a fundamental responsibility of government and a matter of life and death. It must therefore be handled with seriousness, professionalism, and devoid of ethnic colouration. Edo people deserve a security system built on merit, competence, and fair representation.
“We urge Governor Okpebholo to act swiftly in repositioning the security framework for the good of all Edo people.”
