The Edo State chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), under the leadership of Comrade Benard Joman Eguakhide, has announced its preparations for the 2026 Workers’ Day celebration.
The NLC called on all its affiliated unions, Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), and various stakeholders to join in the commemoration at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City.
The annual event, also known as May Day, is a global observance honoring the contributions and achievements of workers.
Comrade Eguakhide has disclosed that the theme for the 2026 May Day Celebration: “Insecurity Poverty: Bane of Decent Work.”
The theme underscores the pressing challenges faced by workers in the current socio-economic climate.
The event is expected to host prominent figures, including the Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, and other high-ranking government officials, highlighting the importance of the occasion.
The NLC Chairman assured of a successful and memorable Workers’ Day celebration in Edo State.
Comrade Eguakhide, in a public announcement, urged broad participation from all segments of the society. This includes affiliated unions, civil society organizations, the informal sector, market vendors, road transport workers, local government council chairpersons and staff, private sector employees, company executives, and all relevant stakeholders across Edo State.
The NLC anticipates a large turnout, demonstrating a unified commitment to addressing the issues affecting the workforce and promoting decent work for all.
