Rongtai Building Materials Industry Limited has issued a 72-hour ultimatum to The Nigerian Observer and Capacity TV and Radio, demanding a full retraction of false publications alleging that five workers died within the company’s facilities.
According to the legal notice, the company insists that the retractions be broadcast using the exact same electronic platforms originally used to spread the claims.
Furthermore, Rongtai is demanding unreserved public apologies published across those same electronic channels as well as in two prominent national newspapers.
The directive was detailed in a letter dated August 23, 2026, and signed by Jimmy Osagiede Esq. of Jimmy Osagiede & Co.
The correspondence was addressed to Mr. Ebo Stone, C.E.O. of Capacity TV and Radio, Osazuwa Omede Multimedia in Benin City, and the Editor of the Bendel Newspaper Corporation, publishers of The Nigerian Observer.
In the legal document, Osagiede Esq. emphasized that failure to meet these demands within the stipulated timeframe will compel the company to pursue severe legal action to protect its reputation and corporate integrity.
“We are reliably informed by our client that you published to the whole world, a false and disparaging statement of facts about our client thereby defaming and damaging the interest of our client resulting in huge financial loss. Your publication has also resulted in bad faith between the host community and our client.
“SPECIFICALLY, in your electronic media broadcast via Facebook and radio on the visit of His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo to our client factory on 19/8/2026, you reported that five workers died in our client facilities last month being the month of July 2026. This is malicious, slanderous, libelous and a figment of your imagination.
“Suffice it to say that the visit of his excellency, the Governor of Edo State was necessitated by the incident of July 30th 2026 in which a fork lift driver of Rongtai Aluminium Company lost his life after falling off from a fork lift due to improper operation. As a matter of facts, the incidents of five deaths, you referred to never happened during the period under review which is the month of July 2026.
“Flowing from the above, you are hereby given 72 hours from the day of the receipt of this notice to retract all the false allegations/publications against our client using the same electronic media in the same manner with which you told the whole world about our client. Furthermore, you should publish an unreserved apology using the same media and two national newspapers.
“Failure to do so within the said 72 hours will make our client to seek the appropriate legal remedies against you.”
