In a landmark decision that reaffirms his administration’s dedication to inclusivity and equal opportunity, Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Ms. Kindness Ikponwonsa Idahosa, a lawyer with visual impairment, as a Law Officer in the Ministry of Justice.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Governor’s
Chief Press Secretary, Ebojele Akhere Patrick and made available to newsmen in Benin.
The CPS noted that the appointment sends a resounding message that disability is not a barrier to achievement and underscores the Governor’s commitment to empowering persons with disabilities in Edo State.
Governor Okpebholo emphasized that Ms. Idahosa’s appointment is a testament to the principle that “there is always ability in every disability.”
He stated that his administration is deliberately creating opportunities for talented and diligent citizens, irrespective of their physical limitations.
“This appointment reflects the government’s belief in fostering a society where everyone has the chance to contribute their skills and expertise.”Okpebholo said.
Ms. Idahosa’s personal story is one of extraordinary resilience and triumph over adversity. After being diagnosed with Hereditary Sensory Neuropathy, a challenging spinal condition, she had to discontinue her education in JSS 3 and spent thirteen years at home.
However, her life took a transformative turn when the Network for the Advancement of People with Visible Disabilities intervened, providing a wheelchair and sponsoring her return to school.
With that support, she secured admission to study Law at the University of Benin, where she graduated with a Second Class Upper Division in 2023. She proceeded to the Nigerian Law School in 2024, completed her Bar Finals successfully, and was called to the Nigerian Bar in September 2025.
Governor Okpebholo’s approval of her employment stands as a strong example of his administration’s commitment to fairness, inclusion, and practical support for Edo citizens striving against the odds.
