NOA tasks Nigerians on Unity, support for new Tax Reform Bill

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) on Thursday urged Nigerians to unite to move the nation forward, disclosing that the challenges that bedeviled the country require collective action and active participation from all Nigerians.

Briefing newsmen, Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu made the appeal in Benin City, during the flag off of a nationwide sensitization campaign on five critical issues ranging from World HIV Day, Security Awareness, Discouraging Get Rich Qiuck Syndrome, World Human Rights Day and the Tax Reform Bills.

Represented by Director, National Orientation Agency, Mrs. Rebecca Nasamu, Onilu said efforts towards addressing the nation’s challenges are underway as the campaign represents more than government initiatives.

He added that the campaign is a call to action for every Nigerian to join hands in addressing these five critical issues of importance to the government, particularly the Tax Reform Bills.

“Taxation is essential for funding National development, but we recognize that it has been a source of concern for many Nigerians due to issues like multiple taxation and its impact on low-income earners. To address these challenges, the government is implementing reforms to make the system fairer and less burdensome for citizens. ” Onilu said.

Onilu said that the government is working to stop different levels of authority from taxing people for the same thing noting that there would be no more double taxes.

“Together, we must create a society that is healthy , secure, ethical, and united in purpose.

“We count on traditional leaders, religious institutions, civil society organizations, and educational institutions to amplify these messages and extend their reach.”

Onilu who solicited the support of the media in the campaign, described the media’s role in shaping public perception and attitudes as invaluable.

“You are indispensable in shaping public perceptions and attitudes. We urge you to partner with us in spreading these critical messages through your platforms, ensuring every Nigerian is informed and inspired to act. “Onilu said.

In his speech, State Director, NOA, Edo State Directorate , Mr. Osahon Woghiren solicited the support of the general public in the Nigerian Project.
Woghiren tasked the people on the importance and benefits of the new tax reform policy of the federal government, noting that it is for the benefit of the generality of Nigerians.

Secretary, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Edo State Council, Mr Andy Egbon, said the Tax Reform Bill is a welcome development, adding that the Tax Reform Bill is a progressive tax that would help all and sundry in the country and called for support for the Tax Reform Bill.
