HUNGER RPIND Tasks Nigerians
The Riverine Peace Initiative in the Niger Delta (RPIND) on Tuesday urged President Bola Tinubu to urgently address economic woes that have bedeviled the country and stop believing those who are giving him false hope that Nigerians will jettison the August 1st protest.
The National President, Comrade Toluwa Mulade, while addressing members of RPIND in Benin City on the proposed peaceful protest, noted that despite being in support of the peaceful protest, they would never support anyone who is calling for a change of government.
According to him, the administration of President Tinubu was duly elected in line with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the same Constitution that provides the right for a Peaceful protest for Citizens when the government fails to do what they were elected for.
Comrade Toluwa cites how similar issues happened in 1984,, where prices of food were high due to foreign exchange, and how the people were unsatisfied with the high increase in goods and services.
He stressed that in an attempt to find the context where the distribution challenges lie, a national seminar was conducted at Eko Hotel in Lagos to find effective distribution and price control techniques to tackle the economic challenges in the Country.
According to him, the seminar was attended by representatives of business organizations in both the private and public sectors, academicians, government agencies, and parastatals to tackle distribution and price control.
He queried that if a Military Government can institute such measures to deal with the plights of the people, why won’t an elected government with good numbers of Ministers in its cabinet come up with preventive solutions to what could spike up violence?
He noted that the reason why the Presidency has refused to address the issues is because they believe in the very few who benefit from the government at the expense of the generality of the populace.
He called on the President to rise to address the demands of the people and stop listening to those who, instead of telling him the truth about the pains of Nigerians, keep deceiving him that all is well.
