Senator Monday Okpebholo Urges Patience for President Tinubu
Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the September 21st election in Edo State, has called on Nigerians to allow President Bola Tinubu time to address the country's economic challenges.
During an interactive session with newsmen in Benin City, Okpebholo expressed confidence that not only would the APC win the governorship election, but he also suggested that even the current state governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, would cast his vote for him.
Okpebholo dismissed claims that he is not an eloquent speaker, attributing such insinuations to the Obaseki-led People's Democratic Party (PDP). He asserted that Obaseki would likely vote for him in the upcoming election, despite their political differences.
Okpebholo, optimistic about succeeding Obaseki, highlighted his campaign manifesto titled "A New Edo is Rising." He believes this platform will attract support from both friends and critics, promising to promote social inclusion and alleviate poverty in the state. His manifesto includes poverty alleviation programs such as microfinance schemes, agricultural support, and skills training initiatives aimed at empowering marginalized communities and reducing income inequality.
The youth wing of the APC, drawn from all 18 local government areas of Edo State, pledged their unwavering support for Okpebholo during the interactive session. They assured him of their commitment to ensuring his victory in the election.
Okpebholo also emphasized his dedication to youth development, stating that his administration would launch awareness campaigns and sensitization programs to promote social cohesion and combat discrimination based on gender, ethnicity, or socio-economic status.
Regarding the planned nationwide hunger protest, Okpebholo deemed it unnecessary and urged Nigerians to give President Tinubu time to address the economic issues, noting that Tinubu has only been in office for one year. He suggested that any protest in Edo State would benefit the APC by contributing to the exit of the PDP-led government, which he criticized for poor governance over the past seven years.
Okpebholo also criticized the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, alleging that Ighodalo had isolated himself from the community until recently expressing interest in the election. He recounted his own contributions to local security efforts, contrasting them with Ighodalo's late Senator Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for the September 21st election in Edo State, has called on Nigerians to allow President Bola Tinubu time to address the country's economic challenges.
