Residents in Otefe community, Oghara, Ethiope West LGA of Delta State joy knew no bound as the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) launched a cassava processing mill for the people of the community under its Economic Empowerment and Livelihood Support project being supported by the Switzerland Embassy in Nigeria and Bread for the World, Germany.
Speaking at the launch yesterday, ANEEJ Executive Director, Rev. David Ugolor, who introduced the project and its objectives solicited for the support of the people of Otefe community for the project to succeed and achieve maximum impact as intended.
Ugolor said that the project aims to build the capacity of Otefe-Oghara community members to engage in sustainable and environmentally friendly income-generating activities while addressing the high poverty levels and environmental challenges exacerbated by insecurity, harsh economic policies, climate change and pollution.
Ugolor noted that the cassava processing factory will create jobs for the people of Otefe and provide a market for local farmers.
“This initiative will holistically strengthen economic resilience, improve livelihoods, and foster environmental sustainability for Otefe-Oghara community members.”Ugolor said.
Present at the launch were Chief Goddy Orhioru, Chief Wilson Ighere, Chief Oghenekevbe Ajare and Chief Doughlas Edosovwa, community elders, women, men and youths.
The chiefs and community elders offered prayers and pledged their support for the project.
