The Conference of Registered Political Parties (CRPP) has raised strong disapproval of the Edo State government’s explanation regarding the recent stampede at Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin.
Dr. Samson Isibor, the National Chairman of CRPP, conveyed his disappointment with the remarks made by Prince Kassim Afegbua, the Edo State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, concerning the incident where over 50 students fainted.
In a joint statement, Dr. Isibor and Hon. Nkama Waribe, Secretary of CRPP, accused Afegbua of evading the real issue and failing to provide a clear account of the events to the people of Edo State, particularly the parents of the affected students.
The CRPP leaders expressed their dismay at what they perceived as Afegbua’s dismissive and disrespectful language.
The CRPP statement further condemned Afegbua’s alleged use of uncivilized language and his attempt to discredit the organization by labeling it as unregistered.
Isibor and Waribe emphasized the need for transparency and accountability from the government in addressing the concerns and anxieties of the public following the stadium incident.
“Ordinarily, we would not have degnified him with a response, but for the purpose of clarification, we will remind him that as the commissioner in charge of information and strategy, he is saddled with the responsibility of informing, educating and enlightening the citizens on the activities of the government he serves. Full stop. Certainly, that does not include abusing the opposition. ” Isibor stated.
