The University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH) on monday hosted a celebratory dinner in honor of Prof. Afekhide Ernest Omoti, the newly elected president of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).
The Chief Medical Director of UBTH, Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu extended her congratulations and urged Prof. Omoti to lead with distinction, fostering unity and progress within the medical field, and to establish a lasting legacy.
During the dinner, Prof. Ize-Iyamu highlighted Prof. Omoti’s exceptional qualities and dedication to healthcare advancement.
She emphasized that his election to the NMA presidency was a well-deserved recognition of his academic excellence, professional ethics, and unwavering commitment to improving healthcare standards.
The CMD acknowledged Prof. Omoti’s significant contributions as a Professor of Ophthalmology and Honorary Consultant at UBTH.
According to the CMD, the event served as a platform to acknowledge Prof. Omoti’s achievements and inspire him as he assumes his new role.
The UBTH community expressed its support and optimism for his tenure as NMA President, confident that his leadership will bring about positive change and further elevate the medical profession in Nigeria.

Prior to his election as NMA National President, Prof. Omoti served as the Chairman of the Edo State Branch of the NMA and Chairman, National Eye Health Committee. He is a distinguished Honorary Consultant Ophthalmologist at UBTH and Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Benin.
