Benin City was agog recently as prominent figures including the Esama of Benin Kingdom, Chief Gabriel Osawaru Igbinedion, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, the Asagba of Asaba, His Royal Majesty Prof Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge, SAN, former Edo State Governor, Chief lucky Igbinedion among others, converged to celebrate the 70th birthday of the erudite scholar, Prof. Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye.
The event was filled with accolades and well wishes for the celebrant, recognizing his immense contributions to academia and the wider community.
Top personalities including the former secretary to the Edo State Government (SSG) and All Progressives Congress (APC) Leader, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, Vice-Chancellor University of Benin, Prof. Edoba Omoregie (SAN) the Asagba of Asaba, Prof. Epiphany Chigbogu Azinge all came together to honor the distinguished scholar.
Born on March 14th, 1956, Prof. Ezemonye is a highly respected Nigerian academic, ecotoxicologist, and the current Vice-Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), Edo State.
Beyond his administrative role, he also chairs the General Assembly and Executive Board of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU), showcasing his leadership within the academic community.
Known affectionately as ‘the Bulldozer’ by those close to him, Prof. Ezemonye is a dedicated scholar committed to advancing research, innovation, environmental sustainability, and international collaborations, exemplified by his involvement in projects like the RECIRCULATE project.
As a Fellow of the Nigerian Environmental Society (FNES) and a renowned Professor of Ecotoxicology and Environmental Forensics, his contributions to his field are widely recognized.
The 70th birthday celebration of the former Deputy Vice-Chancellor (DVC) of UNIBEN was attended by top personalities, including the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), Prof. (Mrs) Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, and many others.
The ‘Bulldozer,’ as he is known within the university community, was celebrated by friends and family from around the world as he joined the Septuagenarian club. The event was attended by personalities from the academia, business, and political circles.
