The Pioneer Permanent Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of
Edo State Health Regulation and Monitoring Agency (EDOHERMA) Dr. Adesuwa Urhoghide has stated that the State has recorded a historic milestone to strengthen the S.H.I.N.E Agenda in health sector governance with the establishment of the EDOHERMA.
This is contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Benin, where she noted that EDOHERMA is a comprehensive health sector regulatory agency established to enforce standards, ensure patient safety, promote quality, accessible and affordable healthcare across the entire health ecosystem in Edo State.
Dr. Urhoghide added that the historic milestone in the state health sector governance with the establishment of the EDOHERMA is a bold, visionary reform that redefines how healthcare is regulated, monitored, and safeguarded in Nigeria.
“EDOHERMA is a comprehensive health sector regulatory agency established to enforce standards, ensure patient safety, promote quality, accessible and affordable healthcare across the entire health ecosystem in Edo State. Its mandate spans public and private health facilities, community-based health services, public health monitoring, infection prevention and control, service quality assurance, and healthcare standards enforcement. This makes EDOHERMA the first agency of its kind in Nigeria with a unified, whole-sector regulatory framework.
“I extend my deepest appreciation and unreserved commendation to His Excellency, Monday Okpebholo, Executive Governor of Edo State, for his extraordinary leadership, courage, and uncommon foresight. By championing the establishment of EDOHERMA, His Excellency has demonstrated a rare commitment to systemic reform, one that prioritises lives, patient safety, transparency, accountability, and long-term impact over short-term gains.
“This singular decision reflects a governor who understands that strong health regulation saves lives, restores public confidence, and builds a resilient healthcare system. Your Excellency’s leadership has not only positioned Edo State as a national pacesetter in health governance but has also set a benchmark that other states will inevitably follow.”Urhoghide said.
According to her, the establishment of EDOHERMA is more than a policy achievement. It is a legacy decision. It is a promise that healthcare in Edo State will be safe, regulated, ethical, and worthy of the trust of its people.
She explained that the Governor Monday Okpebholo-led government has not only raised the bar, but it has changed the game.
