Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) is maintaining a dominant lead in the ongoing Anambra State governorship election.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has officially declared results from 19 of the 21 local government areas (LGAs). Collation of the final results is continuing at the state headquarters in Awka.
The aggregated results from the 19 declared LGAs show a commanding lead for the incumbent party. APGA has recorded a total of 389,789 votes. The closest contender, the All Progressives Congress (APC), follows with 91,592 votes. The Labour Party (LP) has a significantly lower tally of 10,366 votes, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has only 1,230 votes. Results from the remaining two LGAs are yet to be announced by the State Returning Officer.
The APGA’s success is rooted in its landslide performance across the majority of the state. The party has polled the highest votes in all the declared areas. Several LGAs contributed massive numbers to the APGA total, including:
- Aguata: 35,559 votes
- Awka South: 27,896 votes
- Idemili North: 25,498 votes
- Orumba North: 24,664 votes
- Onitsha North: 24,225 votes
- Njikoka: 22,213 votes
Further strong results for APGA came from Dunukofia (14,892 votes), Awka North (15,895 votes), Orumba South (19,818 votes), and Oyi (18,882 votes). Key areas in the Obunike region, such as Anambra East (14,665 votes) and Anyamelum (13,340 votes), also favored the party heavily. The Nnewi region confirmed the trend, with Nnewi North polling 20,320 votes and Nnewi South recording 17,286 votes.
The APC has consistently held the second position but remains far behind the ruling party. The gap suggests that APGA is firmly on course to secure a second term in office. Smaller parties like the LP and PDP trailed significantly across all declared LGAs.
