Former Senate Chief Whip Senator Roland Owie has urged Chief John Odigie Oyegun, the national leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), to choose between the roles of national leader and senatorial leader amid a growing crisis in the Edo State chapter of the party.
The crisis stems from disagreements over the next state chairman, a position zoned to Edo South and further micro-zoned to Oredo Local Government Area, where Dr. Mike Ehima and Tony Alile are vying for the office, necessitating a mini primary.
Senator Owie stated that at the end of the exercise, Dr Ehima polled 75 votes, while his opponent, Tony Alile, scored four votes.
He told Newsmen that information reaching him and the party indicated that Chief John Odigie-Oyegun was adopting another chairman in place of Dr Ehima at the national office of the party in Abuja.
“Oyegun cannot be a National Leader and Senatorial Leader; he should choose one,” Owie said and called on the NEC of the ADC to call Oyegun to order, adding, “Oyegun should stop playing games.”
Owie emphasized the need for Oyegun to clarify his role to resolve the escalating issues within the ADC.
Reacting to Senator Owie’s allegation, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun said, “I am not the State Congress officer appointed by the national headquarters, Abuja, to oversee the congress. It is only the congress officer who can speak on that; maybe he will speak tomorrow.
