The Benin Traditional Council (BTC) has issued a public statement to address the controversy surrounding Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, otherwise known as “Peller,” and his management team response countering Peller’s claim of having obtained authorization to visit the Oba of Benin’s palace.
The Council clarified that submitting a request letter and receiving an acknowledgement stamp does not, under any circumstance, constitute official sanction.
This statement directly counters Peller’s claim of having obtained authorization to visit the Oba of Benin’s palace.
Mr. Frank Irabor, the BTC’s Secretary, conveyed the council’s firm position in a statement addressed to journalists in Benin.
The statement, entitled “Re: Clarification on the status of document acknowledgement vis-a-vis palace approval,” refers to an incident on Friday, March 6th.
On that day, Mr. Adelaja and his group are alleged to have entered the palace grounds without due authorization, thereby causing disruption and a breach of peace.
Expressing profound disquiet regarding the intrusion, the BTC’s declaration firmly stated: “The Palace is not a public thoroughfare or a location for frivolous content creation.”
This declaration underscores the cultural and traditional significance of the Oba of Benin’s palace, emphasizing the critical need to adhere to established protocols when seeking entry.
The council’s resolute response underscores its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the sanctity and order of the palace grounds.
