A newly constructed event center located along Adolor College Road in Ugbowo, Egor Local Government Council Area of Edo State, has suffered significant damage after Monday rainstorm.
The storm completely destroyed the roof of the building, leaving the structure in ruins just 24 hours before its scheduled commissioning for public use.
The rainstorm’s impact wasn’t limited to the roof, as other parts of the building also sustained damage.
Fortunately, no lives were lost in the disaster, as all staff and workers were safely rescued.
However, the neighboring buildings close to the event center were also affected by the storm, with debris from the damaged event center impacting nearby houses.
The disaster occurred as final preparations were underway for the grand opening, scheduled for Tuesday, March 10th, 2026.
Caterers were on-site making last-minute arrangements, and cows had already been slaughtered in anticipation of the event centre commissioning.
Eyewitness account revealed that the damage was not unconnected with the shoddy work done in the building project.
