A prominent socio-cultural group in Edo North Senatorial district, Owan Conscience has distanced itself from the purported endorsement of Senator Adams Oshiomhole for a second term in the National Assembly.
The endorsement, allegedly made by some All Progressives Congress (APC) leaders in Owan East Local Government Area, has sparked outrage within the group.
Hon. Richard Ofen-imu, Chairman of Owan Conscience, made the position known at a press conference in Benin City on Thursday, expressing the group’s dismay.
He described the endorsement as a painful reminder of the ongoing political marginalization of the Owan people.
Ofen-imu emphasized that the Owan people have been treated as mere spectators rather than active stakeholders in the political landscape and governance of Edo North.
“The purported endorsement by a select group of APC members, claiming to be leaders in Owan East, is not only laughable but also insensitive,” Ofen-imu stated.
He criticized the endorsement for disregarding the long-standing demand for justice, equity, fairness, and inclusive representation for the Owan people.
” We can clearly say that in almost three years in the senate, the Owan nation has not felt the representation of Oshiomhole. It has been a disastrous performance.
“We are ready to go on a tour of Owan East and Owan West LGAs with Comrade Oshiomhole in order for him to provide the ocular proof of the projects he has facilitated in Owan. The Owan Conscience believes in the oneness, unity, equality and peaceful coexistence of all“, Ofen-imu posited
The group’s strong condemnation highlights the growing discontent over perceived political exclusion in the region and raises questions about the unity within the APC in Edo North.
