The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Prof. Edoba Omoregie (SAN), has expressed his condolences to the family of the institution’s former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Baikie, on behalf of the entire university community.
Prof. Baikie served as the Vice Chancellor of UNIBEN from 1978 to 1986 and later held the same position at the National University of Lesotho and Nasarawa State University.
In a statement released Saturday in Benin City, Dr. Benedicta Ehanire, the Deputy Registrar/Public Relations Officer of UNIBEN, conveyed Prof. Omoregie’s deepest sympathies.
The Vice Chancellor described Prof. Baikie as a distinguished educationist and administrator who pioneered numerous innovative and impactful initiatives in the educational landscape of Nigeria and Africa, leaving a lasting legacy.
Prof. Omoregie urged the family of the late academic and administrator to find solace in his accomplished life, marked by extensive service both within and beyond the university.
The University of Benin community joins in mourning the loss of a remarkable leader and extends its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Prof. Baikie.
The vice chancellor urged the family of the distinguished departed academic and administrator to be consoled by his fulfilled life of immense service within and outside the country.
Prof. Omoregie prayed God to grant the soul of the former vice chancellor eternal rest and comfort his family, friends and associates.
Prof. Baikie, first Professor of Education in Northern Nigeria was 94.
