Nigeria’s Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Uche Nnaji, has resigned from office following damning revelations that he allegedly forged his university and NYSC certificates. Uptown Press can report.
The resignation, confirmed on Tuesday by presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga, comes after a two-year investigation reportedly uncovered discrepancies in Nnaji’s academic records from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
According to reports, a media probe revealed that the minister did not complete his university education but allegedly presented falsified documents, including a Bachelor of Science degree and an NYSC discharge certificate, when he was appointed in August 2023.
In a statement issued by the Presidency, Onanuga said, “President Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him.”
Nnaji, in his resignation letter, reportedly thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the opportunity to serve and claimed he had been a target of political blackmail.
President Tinubu, while accepting the resignation, expressed appreciation for Nnaji’s service and wished him well in his future endeavours.
The scandal marks the first major ministerial resignation of Tinubu’s administration over alleged certificate forgery, rekindling public debate about credibility and integrity in public service appointments.
