The Big Plans of Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu Towards Occupational Therapy Centre.
Upon enquiry and concern made by Parents who often take their special children to Occupational Therapy Centre at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital over the information they got regarding the plans by the CMD of University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu to upgrade the Occupational Therapy Centre, the leadership of AIGUOBASINMWIN MOVEMENT WORLD-WIDE immediately drew the attention of the Chief Medical Director of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital to their concern wherein she gave account about the big plains she have for Occupational Therapy Centre at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. While reacting to the concern raised, Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu stated as follows:
Occupational therapy (OT) is a healthcare service that helps people of all ages participate in the daily activities (occupations) they need and want to do, despite physical, cognitive, or emotional challenges from an injury, illness, or disability. OTs focus on improving a person’s ability to perform “occupations” like self-care, work, or play by evaluating their needs, suggesting environmental adaptations, and teaching new skills or the use of adaptive equipment.
As a premier health treatment and training institution, the aim is to set a world-class benchmark for occupational therapists, emphasizing ongoing staff training and capacity building, while partnering with esteemed organizations like the Nigeria Army and related agencies, to equip them with the expertise to enhance the independence and quality of life of individuals, including those requiring prosthetic limb replacement due to trauma, war, birth defects, or accidents.
Professor Idia added that, the vision is not only on Occupational Therapy, however, it will comprise departments for children with intellectual developmental disabilities and autism spectrum disorders.
The central message she conveyed is that, upon completing a brief training and retraining program for quality personnel to fill various positions, supported by state-of-the-art infrastructure, the centre will transform into a full scale major global treatment centre.
She added that the upgrade of the Occupational Therapy Centre at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital will also serves as discovery and training hup where people within and outside the country can acquire knowledge and after they are done with their training, certificates will be awarded to them so that they can compete with their peers across the world.
Judging from the above, it is obvious that Professor Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu mean well for the people.
