The Federal Government has launched a free Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programme, offering participants a monthly stipend of N22,500 to support their transportation and training needs.
The initiative aims to equip Nigerians, particularly youths, with practical skills to boost employability, encourage self-reliance, and foster economic growth. It is a collaborative effort between the Federal Government and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), with accredited training centres established across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Speaking in Abuja on Wednesday at the official launch of Ladela Educational Institute as one of the accredited training centres, the Executive Director of the Institute, Angela Ajala, described the programme as a significant investment in Nigeria’s human capital.
Ajala revealed that after completing six months of intensive training, each participant will receive a starter pack to launch their own business or career, courtesy of the Federal Government.
She explained that the institute will offer training in key areas including fashion design and garment making, solar installation and maintenance, social media communications, hospitality and catering, and creative media (digital media production).
“This initiative is a powerful investment in the people of Nigeria. It recognises that the future of our nation lies in what our hands can build, what our minds can create, and what our hearts dare to pursue,” Ajala said.
“We are opening our doors to every Nigerian willing to learn, upskill, and chart a new path. Our programmes are delivered by industry professionals, ensuring every participant leaves with not just skills, but also competence, confidence, and access to relevant networks,” she added.
Also speaking, Pauline Ajibili, Deputy Director at NBTE, said the programme is targeted at Nigerian youths between the ages of 18 and 35.
She noted that participants would receive nationally recognized certificates, enhancing their employability and entrepreneurship potential.
Ajibili encouraged interested applicants to visit the NBTE portal to register, stressing that the list of accredited training centres is available on the website.
She clarified that the N22,500 monthly stipend is meant to cover transportation costs, thereby easing the financial burden on trainees and ensuring smooth participation throughout the programme duration.
