Members of the defunct women-wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), are demanding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to appoint some of their members into government as a matter of justice, equity and fairness.
The ninety five women who are heads of respective organizations representing over 1,000 groups said they are still counting their losses and living in the pain they suffered while campaigning for the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 presidency.
According to the group, while they see the death of their members who paid the supreme price as an art of God, as they crisscrossed the country for the president while they queued behind Her Excellency, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, it is painful that the presidency did not consider any of their fold as being qualified for appointment.
Spokeswoman of the group, Hajiya Rekiya Abdullahi who issued a statement at the weekend in Abuja said it was not out of place for President Tinubu to use the 2nd Anniversary to correct the wrong the women have suffered in the past two years.
She said with the talks of coalition and the several overtures being made to their members it has become expedient for them to make an open demand on the President whom they have served diligently and have shown loyalty until now.
“While we refuse to accept that our efforts which contributed to your successful emergence as President, We also believe that we deserve to be appointed to public offices to demonstrate our capacity in nation building..”Abdullahi stated.
She said their leaders have come under intense query from their members, who feel they were used and dumped as they could not be able to convince them that it is the same team they mobilized for that is in government while they are left out of the scheme of things.
“Throughout the campaign period, we stood firmly behind Her Excellency, the First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, crisscrossing the country, mobilizing support, canvassing votes, and advocating for the party’s agenda at the grassroots level.
“Two years into this administration, these women feel neglected, ignored, and sidelined.
Despite their unwavering support and immeasurable contributions, not a single individual from the Women’s Wing of the PCC has been recognized or rewarded with appointments or any form of compensation.
“This sense of abandonment is deeply disheartening, demoralizing, and unacceptable.
“Our members are left to watch from the sidelines, while others who played no significant roles are being recognized and elevated.
This “use-and-dump” approach is not only unjust but also risks eroding the morale of women who form a significant majority of the electorate and who were pivotal to the party’s 2023 electoral victory.
