
An 18-year-old bride, Saudat Jibril, has been arrested in the Farawa Quarters, Kano State after she allegedly slit the throat of her husband, Salisu Idris, nine days after they got married.
Although the circumstances that led to the deadly end of the marriage have not yet been unravelled, Kano State Police Command told journalists that Jibril has been arrested for an alleged culpable homicide case.
In a statement made available to newsmeb, spokesperson of the command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspect cut off the throat of 30-year-old Idris with a sharp knife.
The statement, “Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, swiftly deployed a team of detectives to the scene.
“The victim was rushed to Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, where he was confirmed dead by medical personnel. The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in custody at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Homicide Section and will be charged in court for offence of culpable homicide.”
According to Kiyawa, the Commissioner of Police cautions that the Command will not tolerate any form of violence or criminality in the State and assures the public of its commitment to conducting thorough investigations to ensure justice is served.
The Kano State Police Command urges members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station through their emergency lines.
Recalled a similar incident involving one Rahma Hussein, a 16-year-old, teenage stabbed her husband to death at Darmanawa area of Tarauni local government Kano, less than a week after her wedding.
She was subsequently released from prison custody after she was granted pardoned seven years after her conviction for murder.
